Rear Admiral Mahinda Mahawatte retires from naval service
The Sri Lanka Navy today (24th March 2023) bade farewell to Rear Admiral Mahinda Mahawatte who relinquished his naval duties to which he was committed over the past 33 years.
Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, flanked by the Navy Board of Management, expressed best wishes to the retiring officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, the senior officer was accorded a Guard of Honour in compliance with naval traditions. Next, fellow officers bade adieu to Rear Admiral Mahinda Mahawatte who departed the Navy Headquarters amidst the cheers of senior and junior sailors.
Rear Admiral Mahinda Mahawatte joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 07th intake of Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) in 1989. During his illustrious career, the senior officer has held a number of command appointments on board ships and at naval establishments. Aside from that, Deputy Director Naval Training, Naval Officer in Charge (Islands), Captain Operations Department (West), Defence Attaché at Sri Lanka Embassy – Jakarta, Indonesia, Director Naval Training, Director General Services, Commander Southeastern Naval Area, and Director General Training are some of the key appointments he has held.
