Commander of the Navy visits Northwestern Naval Command
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, accompanied by the President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne, embarked on a visit to the Northwestern Naval Command on 08th August 2021.
Upon his arrival, Commander of the Navy declared open the newly constructed Main Entrance of the naval base SLNS Vijaya before he bestowed school facilities, developed by the Northwestern Naval Command at Eluwankulama Sinhala Vidyalaya in Puttalam District, on students of the school. The Navy went on to construct a new classroom building, laboratory and renovated the computer laboratory at the school on the sidelines of marking the 70th anniversary of Sri Lanka Navy. Apart from that, Vice Admiral Ulugetenne also shared a moment with the naval personnel involved in these construction work and appreciated them for the job well done in a record time.
Subsequently, he called at the Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) Headquarters and opened the ‘Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue Simulator’ set up at RABS Headquarters, to train sailors who undertake search and rescue operations in times of disaster. The training team of RABS Headquarters also demonstrated search and rescue drills by means of this ‘Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue Simulator’ on this occasion. Apart from that, Commander of the Navy opened several other facilities newly made available at the RABS Headquarters as well.
The visit also saw Commander of the Navy, in company of the President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, opening the new Seva Vanitha Yoghurt Project of SLNS Thambapanni, to expand welfare measures offered for naval personnel. Marking this occasion, President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit planted tree sapling on the premises as well.
The visit was organized adhering to COVID-19 protocols in effect for the prevention of the spread of the pandemic. Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Rear Admiral KJ Kularathna, Naval Assistant to Commander of the Navy, Rear Admiral Sujeeva Senaviratne, Deputy Area Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Commodore Prasad Kariyapperuma and Commanding Officers, Heads of Departments and a limited group of officers attached to the Northwestern Naval Command were present on this occasion.
