Late Rear Admiral Mohan Jayamaha memorial statue unveiled in Dambulla
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne today (29th January 2021) presided over a ceremony at Weera Mohan Jayamaha Maha Vidyalaya in Dambulla, where he unveiled a memorial statue built in commemoration of late Rear Admiral Mohan Jayamaha who made the supreme sacrifice for motherland.
Late Rear Admiral Mohan Jayamaha was a renowned Navy war veteran who was victimized untimely to an LTTE attack at the Arali Point of Kayts in Jaffna on 08th August 1992, while on a military assignment. Recalling the memories of this true son of the nation, Sri Lanka Navy erected this memorial statue at Weera Mohan Jayamaha Maha Vidyalaya, with extended sponsorship by Mrs. Vinoda Jayamaha, the beloved wife of late war veteran and his family members.
This special occasion was also attended by Mrs. Vinoda Jayamaha, Dambulla Mayor, Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sanjeewa Dias, Commanding Officer Sri Lanka Naval Ship Pandukabaya, officials from Zonal Education Office Dambulla, Principal of the school, Mr. Anura Bandara Leelarathna, teachers, students, parents and a group of naval personnel.
