This timely initiative got underway at the Regimental Centre of Gajaba Regiment in Saliyapura on 03rd October 2020 from 0800hrs to 1700hrs, under the precedence of Secretary Defence, Major General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, Tri-Service Commanders and Acting Inspector General of Police.

Mobile service organized by Ranaviru Seva Authority to facilitate war hero families concluded on successful note in Anuradhapura

The Ranaviru Seva Authority organized a mobile service for the wellbeing of families of deceased, differently abled, missing and retired war heroes of Tri-Services, Police and Civil Security Department. This timely initiative got underway at the Regimental Centre of Gajaba Regiment in Saliyapura on 03rd October 2020 from 0800hrs to 1700hrs, under the precedence of Secretary Defence, Major General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, Tri-Service Commanders and Acting Inspector General of Police.

The event also saw the Secretary Defence, Tri-Service Commanders and Acting Inspector General of Police awarding ‘Uththama Pranama Padakkama’ to the next of kin of fallen war veterans in recognition of the supreme sacrifice made by their son, husband or brother for the defence of the motherland. Incidentally, 08 dedicated families of naval war veterans, deceased and missing, from the Anuradhapura district, were awarded the ‘Uththama Pranama Padakkama’ by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, in recognition of the noble sacrifice of the true sons of the nation.

Accordingly, the family members of late Lieutenant Commander RMDHS Rathnayake, Leading Patrolman HGWK Premalal, Leading Seaman DMSB Dahanayake, Leading Seaman NN Rajapaksha, Leading Electrical Mechanic NMWS Karunathilaka, Leading Electrical Mechanic, RUS Samantha Kumara, Able Patrolman GC Gunasekara and Able Seaman JT Jayathilaka received this honour from Commander of the Navy in a fitting ceremony. Further, 269 more naval war hero families including 16 from the Anuradhapura district will receive the ‘Uththama Pranama Padakkama’ in due course.

This event held in Anuradhapura on a dignified note was attended by a group of family members of deceased and missing naval war veterans as well as differently abled and retired naval personnel. Meanwhile, arrangements had been made by the Navy to pay attention to issues related to salaries, pensions, insurance and compensation of Navy combatants. Apart from that, the Navy also looked into the health issues and welfare matters common to the family members of naval war veterans and made necessary directives and arrangements to sort out those matters.
