COVID – 19 quarantine centres established at SLNS Buwaneka and Oluvil harbour
In view of the looming threat of COVID-19 pandemic, Sri Lanka Navy shouldering the national responsibility has swiftly set up 02 quarantine centres at the naval establishment SLNS Buwaneka in Mulankavil, Mannar and Oluvil harbour premises on 28th March 2020, for persons suspected of COVID-19 infection.
To augment the coordinated government efforts to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country, four (04) buildings of SLNS Buwaneka were arranged with quarantine facilities, on the instructions of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva. The quarantine centre can accommodate 64 people who are expected to go through 14 days of quarantine, with required facilities. Further, the Navy also took steps to renovate two (02) buildings belonging to the Ports Authority in the Oluvil harbour premises to provide quarantine facilities for 80 persons.
Arrangements have been made to provide all necessary facilities such as sanitary, internet, television and other by Navy, to those who are expected to occupy at the quarantine centres. Under the supervision of the Naval Public Health Inspectors, all necessary arrangements have been made to provide nutritious meals to those who arrive at these quarantine centres.
