Navy flood relief teams intensify operations amid adverse weather

Due to the heavy rainfall caused by adverse weather conditions affecting the island, several areas in the Western and Northwestern Provinces are experiencing flooding. To assist those impacted, 08 Navy flood relief teams have been dispatched to the Gampaha, Colombo and Puttalam districts, working in coordination with the Disaster Management Center (DMC). These relief teams are continuing their flood relief efforts today (14th October 2024).

Navy continues flood relief operation in Western Province

Due to the heavy rainfall caused by adverse weather conditions affecting the island, several areas in the Western Province are experiencing flooding. To assist those impacted, Navy flood relief teams have been dispatched to the Gampaha and Colombo districts, working in coordination with the Disaster Management Center (DMC). Navy flood relief teams deployed in several areas of Western Province
Navy renders assistance to distressed Indian fishing trawler in Sri Lankan waters

The Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard assisted an Indian fishing trawler that drifted into Sri Lankan waters near Kovilan Lighthouse, Jaffna, due to a mechanical failure. After inspecting the vessel on 22nd September 2024, repairs were carried out, and the trawler, along with its 05 crew members, was safely escorted up to IMBL on 23rd September 2024.

Navy assists transfer of injured fisherman rescued through coordination of MRCC Colombo

The Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to bring ashore an injured fisherman, who was aboard a local multi day fishing trawler on the high seas south of Sri Lanka. Initially, the fisherman was retrieved by a Merchant Vessel in the sea area, on being coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo. After being brought ashore today (18th September 2024), he was rushed to the National Hospital of Colombo, for medical attention.

SLNS Gajabahu brings 04 rescued fishermen from distressed fishing trawler ‘Nihathamani 01’ to Galle harbour

Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Gajabahu on 04th September 2024 brought the 04 rescued fishermen from distressed fishing trawler ‘Nihathamani 01’ to Galle harbour. Thereupon, they were rushed to the Teaching Hospital Karapitiya for medical attention. The multi-day fishing trawler ‘Lasantha 01’ initially retrieved those 04 fishermen from the trawler ‘Nihathamani 01’, which was in distress approximately 241 nautical miles (501km) on the high seas off Galle, on 03rd September.

Navy rescues 02 fishermen from distressed Indian Fishing Vessel in northern seas
Indian Coast Guard assists rescue of fishermen from distressed local fishing boat off north coast, through coordination of MRCC Colombo

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo at Navy Headquarters, in collaboration with MRCC Chennai, coordinated the successful rescue of four (04) fishermen from a distressed local fishing boat. The fishermen, stranded approximately 447 nautical miles (827 km) off Point Pedro on Sri Lanka's east coast, were rescued by an Indian fishing trawler directed by MRCC Chennai. The rescue operation was reported to MRCC Colombo on 21st August 2024.

Navy rescues a person from perilous floodwaters in Paragoda

Amidst heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions, the Navy continues its efforts to provide relief to those affected by flooding in the Paragoda area of Kalutara district. This evening (19th August 2024), in the Paragoda area, the Navy successfully rescued a person who was caught in floodwaters and in imminent danger of drowning.
