Navy’s swift action brings relief to flood victims in Ampara
Following inclement weather prevailing in certain parts of the island, the Sri Lanka Navy on 04 Mar 25 dispatched a relief team (01) to the Heda Oya area in Ampara to provide necessary aid and support to communities affected by flood.
Due to heavy rainfall, the entrance to Neelagiri Raja Maha Viharaya in Lahugala, Heda Oya, has been inundated. In addition to the Navy, the relief efforts in the area were also augmented by the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Air Force, Police, Disaster Management Centre and other government officials.
Partnering with other relief teams, the Navy conducted Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) operations to facilitate the safe access for pilgrims traveling to the Neelagiri Raja Maha Viharaya for the sacred relic (Sarvagna Dhatu) deposition ceremony, amidst rising water level. They also prioritized addressing the humanitarian requirements of local residents.
