Naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijaya located in Kalpitiya belonging to North Western Naval Command managed to apprehend a stock of red sandalwood, in coordination with Kalpitiya Police yesterday (30).

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne gave away appointment letters to 34 newly enlisted Officer Cadets of the 58th Intake of officers, in a ceremony held at Admiral Somathilaka Auditorium at Naval Headquarters today (1).

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Vidura located in Sampoor in Eastern Naval Command, arrested 14 local fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing activities in the seas off Norway Island yesterday (30).

The inter command Cricket tournament - 2016 was held at the sports ground of Naval and Maritime Academy from 20th to 26th June 2016 with the participation of all commands of the Sri Lanka Navy.

Two publications of the Sri Lanka Navy which lied dormant for a long period of time, were re-launched at the Naval Headquarters today (30). Accordingly the first copy of the second edition of “Sri Lanka Navy Journal” which is published by the Naval Research Wing, was offered to Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne by its Chief Editor, Commodore Priyantha Perera.

To coincide with Social Responsibility Projects carried out at the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, a cleaning programme was carried out in Koneswaram Kovil premises in Trincomalee on 25th June 2016.

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijayaba located in Nilaweli in the Eastern Naval Command apprehended 13 local fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing activities using Purse Seine Nets in the seas off Erakkandy yesterday (29).

At the request of the Sri Lanka Customs, Sri Lanka Navy in coordination with Sri Lanka Coast Guard intercepted and boarded a bulk carrier in the seas 7.5 nautical miles off Galle in the early hours of 29th June.

As per the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, the Northern Naval Command commenced several Soccer coaching camps for the school children who are in the Islands of Jaffna Peninsula.

The Director General Training, Rear Admiral Udaya Bandara today (28) bade farewell to his illustrious naval career which spanned over 34 years.
