The Australian Naval Ship HMAS “Melbourne” arrived at the port of Colombo on 29th August 2015 on a goodwill visit.

Commissioning Parade of six Service Entry Officers of 01/2014 intake was held on 27th August 2015 at the main parade ground of Naval and Maritime Academy, under the patronage of Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Neil Rosayro.

With the intention of developing the skill of golf of the SLN personnel, the SLN Golf association conducted a two-day Golf coaching camp at Sandy Bay Golf Course on 08th and 09th August under the directives of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, who is also the Chairman of the SLN Golf.

The ceremonial handing over of the former Indian Coast Guard Ship Varaha, which had been in service with Sri Lanka Navy as Sri Lanka Naval Ship Sagara since 2006, took place at the port of Colombo on 27th August 2015 in keeping with naval customs and traditions.

The Sri Lanka Navy rescued six local fishermen onboard a multi-day fishing trawler “Suranga” drifting 405 km (225 nautical miles) East of Trincomalee due to an engine failure.

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne paid a courtesy call on the Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith on 24th August 2015 at the Archbishop’s House in Colombo in order to receive his blessing on the new appointment.

The officials of Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association called on the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo on 24th August 2015. The team was headed by the president of the association, Brigadier KA Gnanaweera.

As a formality of the assumption of duties as the 20th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne paid a curtsey call on the Inspector General of Police Mr. N.K. Illangakoon, at the Police Headquarters on 24th August 2015.
