Commander of the Navy attends opening of Sandahiru Maha Se Poson Zone

The opening of Sandahiru Maha Se Poson Zone was held under the patronage of Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) in Anuradhapura on Poson Poya day (21st June 2024). The occasion was also attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera.

JMSDF SAMIDARE departs island concluding formal visit

SAMIDARE (DD – 106) of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), which arrived in Sri Lanka on 20th June 2024, departed the island today (22nd June), on successful completion of her formal visit. The Sri Lanka Navy bade customary farewell to the departing ship at the Colombo port, following naval traditions.

JMSDF SAMIDARE arrives at port of Colombo

SAMIDARE (DD – 106) of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) arrived at the port of Colombo on a formal visit this morning (20th June 2024). The visiting ship was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in compliance with naval traditions.

Commander of the Navy pins flag patches on RIMPAC-bound SLN Marine contingent

A contingent from the Sri Lanka Navy Marines, consisting of 6 officers and 16 sailors, is expected to participate in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2024 Exercise, hosted by Commander, U.S. Indo Pacific Command. The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera pinned flag patches on the uniforms of the RIMPAC-bound SLN contingent at the Navy Headquarters today (19th June).

Delegation from National Defence University, People’s Republic of China visits Navy Headquarters

A National Defence University (NDU) delegation from the People’s Republic of China, currently in Sri Lanka as part of their overseas study tour, visited the Navy Headquarters today (18th June 2024). During this visit, the members of the delegation called on the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera.

Navy Welfare Directorate provides electric wheelchair and air mattress to sailor disabled in the line of duty

In a heartfelt gesture of support towards the naval family, the Welfare Directorate of the Sri Lanka Navy donated an electric wheelchair and an air mattress to Leading Seaman (Drill Instructor) WAPS Weerasinghe (Retd), who had sustained injuries in the line of duty. The donation was made at his house on 17th June 2024.

New batch of 458 Navy recruits completes training in Boossa

In a vibrant ceremony, a total of four hundred and fifty-eight (458) recruits from the 254th intake of the Sri Lanka Navy's Regular and Volunteer Forces passed out at the main parade ground of SLNS Nipuna, Boossa on 14th June 2024. Among these recruits, 355 belonged to the Regular Force, while the remaining 103 were from the Volunteer Force of the Sri Lanka Navy.

Australian High Commission provides educational resources to Naval and Maritime Academy

In a gesture aimed at bolstering the educational resources of the Sri Lanka Navy, the Australian High Commission in Sri Lanka provided a collection of books to the Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee. The event in this regard took place today (14th June 2024) at the Navy Headquarters, where the books were symbolically presented to Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, the Commander of the Navy by Colonel Amanda Johnston, the Defence Advisor of Australian High Commission in Colombo.
