Final salute: Royal Navy officer's ashes laid to rest at Ostenburg Point, Trincomalee

In a solemn and dignified ceremony held at Trincomalee’s Ostenburg Point on 27th September 2024, the ashes of late Lieutenant Norman Schofield, a Royal Navy officer and Mrs Marian Schofield, his late spouse, were scattered with full naval honours. Between 1956 and 1958, Lieutenant Norman Schofield served as a communication officer at the HMS Highflyer naval base in Trincomalee, which was regarded as the second-largest naval base in the world during that period. In accordance with the officer's final wishes, who passed away in 1999, his and his spouse's ashes were respectfully scattered following naval traditions.

Seventy-six (76) Direct Entry Officers and Officer Cadets receives letters of appointment from Commander of the Navy

In a significant ceremony at Navy Headquarters on 27th September 2024, the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, awarded appointment letters to 51 Officer Cadets of the 67th Intake, 18 Direct Entry Officers, and 7 Officer Cadets from University Grant Commission scheme.

Commander of the Navy participates in formal duty assumption of new Defence Secretary

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera on 23rd September 2024 participated in the formal duty assumption of the new Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd). The President, Hon. Anura Kumara Dissanayake appointed Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) as the new Secretary to the Ministry of Defence.

Passenger vessel ‘Neduntharakai’ commences operations after full docking by Navy

The passenger vessel ‘Neduntharakai’ was ceremonially handed over to the Road Development Authority (RDA) in Delft on 19th September 2024, following the completion of full docking by the Sri Lanka Navy. This vessel has been deployed by the Road Development Authority for passenger transport between the Delft Island and Kurikattuwan Jetty in Jaffna.

Navy receives sponsorship for medical grade RO plant to be installed at National Hospital

Sanken Overseas Pvt Ltd handed over a cheque to the Sri Lanka Navy on 19th September 2024 for the installation of a medical grade RO plant at the National Hospital, Colombo. The cheque was presented to the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, at Navy Headquarters. This project, part of the Naval Social Responsibility initiative, will be carried out using the Navy’s manpower and industrial expertise.

Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of Embassy of France meets with Commander of the Navy

The Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of Embassy of France in Colombo, H.E. Marie-Noëlle Duris met with the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera at the Navy Headquarters today (19th September 2024). The purpose of the visit was to introduce the newly appointed French Director of studies of the Regional Center for Maritime Studies, Lieutenant Commander Carine BUZAUD.

Navy assists conduct of holy festival of Verugalampati Sri Chitravelayuthar Swamy Temple in Verugal

The annual holy festival at the historic Verugalampati Sri Chitravelayuthar Swamy Temple in Verugal concluded on 18th September 2024. The 14-day festival, celebrated in reverence of God Murugan, saw a large gathering of devotees. The Navy provided essential lifesaving services to those participating in the religious rituals at the Verugal Aru.

Bangladesh National Defence College delegation visits Navy Headquarters

A 21-member delegation, comprising student officers from the Armed Forces War Course – 2024 of Bangladesh National Defence College, along with its directing staff, visited Navy Headquarters in Colombo today (18th September 2024). As part of this study tour, the Commandant of Bangladesh National Defence College, Lieutenant General Mohammad Shaheenul Haque, met with the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera.

Thirty-two (32) RABS personnel awarded insignia on completion of training

Four (04) officers and twenty-eight (28) sailors who successfully completed the Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) Qualifying Course-28, were awarded insignia at the parade ground of RABS Headquarters in Gagewadiya, Puttalam on 14th September 2024. Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Nishantha Peiris graced the event as the Chief Guest.
