Navy celebrates Vesak giving pride of place to religious practices
Under the guidance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, the Sri Lanka Navy has arranged religious programmes across all Naval Commands to celebrate the Vesak festival on 23rd May 2024. The Navy also played a significant role in supporting the State Vesak Festival held at Dharmaraja Pirivena in Matale and actively participating in events of Bauddaloka Vesak Zone, Buddha Rashmi Vesak Zone, Diyatha Uyana Vesak Zone, Mahara-Kadawatha Vesak Zone, and Valukaramaya Vesak Zone in Kollupitiya.

Commander of the Navy attends pinnacle unveiling ceremony at Kotte Rajamaha Viharaya
The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera took part in a spiritual ceremony where the pinnacle of Dalada Mandiraya at Kotte Rajamaha Viharaya, Sri Jayawardenepura was unveiled amidst the blessings of members of Ven. Maha Sangha on 23rd May 2024.

1289 naval personnel absent without leave discharge during General Amnesty period
One thousand two hundred and eighty nine (1289) naval personnel, who were absent without leave (AWL), legally discharged during the General Amnesty period declared from 20th April to 20th May 2024.

Forty five (45) nursing students capped in ceremony at SLNS Parakrama
In a momentous and dignified ceremony, the 2023 intake of the Naval Nurses’ Training School, SLNS Thakshila, celebrated their Capping Ceremony at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium, SLNS Parakrama, today (22nd May 2024). The occasion saw forty five (45) nursing students from the Sri Lanka Army, Navy and Air Force pledging allegiance to the service in a ceremony graced by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera as the Chief Guest. Director Nursing (Education), Ministry of Health and President Sri Lanka Nursing Council, Mr WA Keerthirathna attended the event as Guest of Honour. Naval Nurses’ Training School in Welisara is an institute accredited to the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU).

Dinesh Gunawardena on 19th May 2024 presided over the National War Heroes’ Day Commemoration 2024 held at the National War Heroes’ Monument in Battaramulla.
