Admiral Priyantha Perera relinquished command of the Sri Lanka Navy on completion of his tenure today (31st December 2024). He assumed office as the 25th Commander of the Navy on 18th December 2022. Admiral Priyantha Perera rendered a distinguished service to the Navy and motherland during his naval career spanning over 37 years.

The President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Hon. Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, promoted Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda to the rank of Vice Admiral and appointed him as the 26th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy effective from today (31st December 2024). Former Commander of the Navy Admiral Priyantha Perera, in a symbolic gesture, presented the Commander's Sword and officially handed over the duties of the Command to the incoming Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda at the Navy Headquarters this morning. A few minutes later, the newly appointed Commander of the Navy was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions, at the Navy Headquarters.

The Commander of the Navy, Admiral Priyantha Perera along with the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Mala Lamahewa opened several facilities in the Welisara Naval Complex today (30th December 2024). The facilities included a hockey pavilion, a Seva Vanitha Utility Centre, and married quarters, all aimed at improving the welfare and support for naval personnel and their families.

The Indonesian Naval Ship ‘KRI SULTAN ISKANDAR MUDA-367’ which arrived in Sri Lanka on 28th December 2024, departed the island today (30th December), on successful completion of its formal visit. The Sri Lanka Navy bade customary farewell to the departing ship at the Colombo port, following naval traditions.

The 49th edition of ‘Sayurusara’ magazine published by the Directorate of Naval Media was presented to the Commander of the Navy, Admiral Priyantha Perera by the Chief Editor of the magazine, Commander (VNF) Saliya Sudusinghe at the Navy Headquarters today (30th December 2024).

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva today (30th December 2024) visited the Navy Headquarters, at the invitation of the Commander of the Navy, Admiral Priyantha Perera.

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera officially launched the Proposal for Sri Lanka Navy’s Strategy 2030 & Beyond (NAVSTRAT – 2030) and Joint Maritime Air Operations Concept today (30th December 2024) at Navy Headquarters. These initiatives were introduced via the Sri Lanka Navy's official website.
