Navy-refurbished Pedal boat handed over to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital

A special event organized by the Teaching Hospital Karapitiya to mark the 01st anniversary of its newly constructed Palliative Care Unit was held on 18th March 2021. Sri Lanka Navy enabled manpower for the construction of this unit which aims to provide physical, psychological and spiritual care to patients. In parallel with the celebratory event, a navy- refurbished pedal boat was handed over to the Palliative Care Unit under the patronage of Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera. This asset will be used for mental relaxation activities organized for the inpatients at this special unit.

Indian Navy provides training aids to Naval & Maritime Academy

The Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Gopal Baglay formally handed over several training aids, provided by the Indian Navy, to the Naval & Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee, on 14th March 2021.

Navy’s mangrove plantation effort takes root in Ponnalai Lagoon

In continuation of Sri Lanka Navy’s mangrove reforestation drive, the Northern Naval Command with the attendance of its Area Commander, Rear Admiral Senarath Wijesooriya, launched a worthy campaign in which 700 mangrove saplings were planted in the Ponnalai Lagoon today (14th March 2021).

Defence Secretary opens several navy-constructed facilities at KDU

Making a visit to the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) on 10th March 2021, Defence Secretary, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne launched a specially designed logo to signify the upcoming 40th KDU Anniversary. During the visit, he also declared open several navy-constructed facilities at KDU, with the attendance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

37 RABS personnel awarded insignia on completion of training

On successful completion of Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) Qualifying Course-25, one (1) officer and thirty six (36) sailors were bestowed with insignia at the parade ground of RABS Headquarters in Gagewadiya, Puttalm on 10th March 2021. The event was held under the patronage of Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Rear Admiral SB Senarathne at the invitation of Commanding Officer RABS, Commander Sagara Udayanga.

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit celebrates International Women's Day

On the sidelines of International Women's Day (08th March), Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU) organized a celebratory event to mark this special day on high note. The event which was held under the auspices of the Chairperson of Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chithrani Gunaratne at the Admiral Somathilaka Dissanayake Auditorium on 08th March 2021 was dignified by the presence of NSVU President, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne and Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

Defence Secretary and Commander of the Navy visit ‘Sandahiru Seya’ and ‘Mihindu Maha Seya’
