Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne handed over the letter of appointment to Rear Admiral Sumith Weerasinghe who was appointed as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, on 22^nd September 2020 at the Navy Headquarters.

In recognition of the notable performances carried out by a group of naval personnel who made valiant efforts to rescue the life of severely injured third engineer of fire-stricken crude oil tanker, MT New Diamond, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne presented Letters of Commendation to them at the Navy Headquarters.

Sri Lanka Navy granted an interest free loan worth Rs. 500,000 each to 75 senior sailors and Rs. 200,000 each to 60 junior sailors for the first time today (21^st September 2020). The occasion to hand over cheques to the beneficiaries was presided over by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium, Navy Headquarters.

Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera was appointed as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy with effect from 12^th September 2020, by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The inaugural ceremony of the International Coastal Cleanup Day and National Marine Resources Conservation Week – 2020 organized by the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) was held under the patronage of Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The event that got off the ground at Mount Lavinia Beach today (19^th September 2020) was also attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

A Training of Trainers (TOT) programme focused on educating naval personnel as how to prevent Non Communicable Disease (NCD) and guiding them for a healthy life, was held at the Admiral Somethilake Dissanayake Auditorium, Navy Headquarters on 16^th September 2020.

His Excellency Mohammed Ashraf Haidari, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Sri Lanka paid a courtesy call on Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters, today (16^th September 2020).

Commander Eastern Naval Area, meeting with the Commanding Officers of Indian Coast Guard Ships ‘Sujay’ and ‘Samudra Paheredar’ in Trincomalee, expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional cooperation rendered by them in averting a major environmental disaster by successfully dousing the fire onboard MT New Diamond.
