Navy assists conduct of water-cutting ceremony of Kandy Esala Perahera

Sri Lanka Navy assisted the conduct of traditional water-cutting ceremony of Sri Dalada Perahara at Gatambe on the morning of 12th August 2022. As the grand procession (Esala Maha Perahera) of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and 04 Main Devalayas came to an end, this time-honoured ceremony also known as ‘Diya Kepeema’ was performed, on a ritualistic note.

Navy launches project to make handicrafts

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne today (12th August 2022) at the Navy Headquarters inspected several souvenirs produced by the Naval Boat Building Yard in Welisara, as part of its handcrafting-project. The project was initiated with the involvement of naval personnel talented in handcrafting, to make souvenirs using eco-friendly materials for the use of the Navy.

PNS Taimur arrives at port of Colombo

Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) Taimur arrived at the port of Colombo on a formal visit this morning (12th August 2022). The visiting ship was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in compliance with naval traditions.

Commander of the Navy appointed as member of National Sports Council

Awarding letters of appointment to the Chairperson and members for the National Sports Council was held on 10th August 2022 at the National Sports Council, Torrington Avenue, under the patronage of the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Hon. Roshan Ranasinghe. On this occasion, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne was also appointed as a member of the National Sports Council. The National Sports Council has been established with the notion to advise the Minister on matters connected with the promotion, development and control of sports in Sri Lanka.

Late Rear Admiral Mohan Jayamaha commemorated in special mass

On the occasion of the 30th death anniversary of one of the iconic war veterans of the Sri Lanka Navy, late Rear Admiral Mohan Jayamaha, a special mass was conducted under the auspices of Mrs Vinoda Jayamaha and family members of the late Rear Admiral. The special mass was conducted by Rev. Fr. Chandana Perera at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Thimbirigasyaya on 08th August 2022 and it was also attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

478 recruits of 245th intake pass out in Poonewa on completion of basic training

A colourful Passing out Parade (POP), which marked the successful culmination of the basic training of 478 recruits (including 116 women recruits) of the 245th intake of Sri Lanka Navy’s Regular and Volunteer Forces, was held at the main parade ground of SLNS Shiksha, Poonewa on 30th July 2022.

Navy lends helping hand to devotees engaged in ‘Paada Yaathra’ from Jaffna to Katharagama

Sri Lanka Navy, as it has been the practice, is lending its helping hand to devotees who are engaged in foot pilgrimage, known as ‘Paada Yaathra’ along the route from the entrance of Kumana National Park to Kumbukkan Oya. The traditional foot pilgrimage marches from Jaffna to Sella Kathragama annually, with the participation of many devotees.
