Rear Admiral Upul De Silva appointed as Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy

The President and Commander-in- Chief of Armed Forces of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed Rear Admiral Upul De Silva as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, effective from 21st June 2022. Accordingly, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, officially handed over the letter of appointment in this regard to Rear Admiral Upul De Silva at the Navy Headquarters and congratulated him.

Relinquishing duties to which he was committed about 36 years, the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral YN Jayarathne retired from naval service today (21st June 2022).

Sri Lanka Navy marks World Hydrography Day

In parallel with the 101st World Hydrography Day that falls on 21st June, Sri Lanka Navy marked the annual celebration at the auditorium of National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) today (21st June 2022). The event which was presided over by the Chief of Staff of the Navy and the Joint Chief Hydrographer to the Government of Sri Lanka and Chief Hydrographer of the Navy, Rear Admiral YN Jayarathne, was attended by other stake holders in the field of hydrography.

Nautical Institute – United Kingdom recognizes academic excellence of SLN officers

Nautical Institute’s Sri Lanka Branch has recognized the academic excellence of two naval officers who stood out in courses conducted by Sri Lanka Navy. The awarding of respective certificates and awards to those officers were held at the 29th Annual General Meeting held at the auditorium of Organization of Professional Association in Colombo on 18 June 2022.

‘Sambuddha Raja Mandapaya’of Pepiliyana Sunethra Devi Pirivena vested in Maha Sanga

The newly constructed upstairs of the wooden ‘Sambuddha Raja Mandapaya’ of Pepiliyana Sunethra Devi Pirivena was vested in Ven. Maha Sanga at the temple premises today (19th June 2022). The event held under the auspices of Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) was also attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne. Sri Lanka Navy contributed to this meritorious undertaking with its able manpower.

Navy blood donation campaign organized in view of 2566th Sri Sambuddha Jayanthi concludes successfully

Following the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Sri Lanka Navy organized a series of blood donation campaigns in each naval command. The timely drive commenced in parallel with the 2566th Sri Sambuddha Jayanthi came to a successful end on 16th June 2022, with the final programme held in the Western Naval Command.

NSVU organizes series of religious events coinciding with Poson Poya Day

Following a notion of the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU), Mrs Chandima Ulugetenne, a Sil programme was held at the Navy Headquarters on 14th June 2022. The event was held in parallel with the Poson Poya Day which marks the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka by Arahat Mahinda Thera. At the invitation of the President of NSVU, Commander of the Navy attended the Poya Day Sil programme.

Navy assists conduct of annual feast mass at St. Anthony's Shrine, Kochchikade

The annual feast mass of St. Anthony’s Shrine, Kochchikade was held in the morning of 13th June under the auspices of His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo. Sri Lanka Navy rendered its assistance for the conduct of this spiritual ceremony which was participated by a large number of Catholic devotees.
