USS Michael Murphy arrives in Colombo
USS Michael Murphy of the United States Navy arrived at the port of Colombo on a replenishment visit today (16th November 2024). The Sri Lanka Navy welcomed the visiting ship in compliance with naval traditions.

அமெரிக்க கடற்படைக்கு சொந்தமான ‘USS Michael Murphy’ என்ற போர்க்கப்பல் வழங்கல் மற்றும் சேவை தேவைகளை பூர்த்தி செய்வதற்காக இன்று (2024 நவம்பர் 16,) கொழும்பு துறைமுகத்தை வந்தடைந்ததுடன், வருகை தந்த கப்பலை இலங்கை கடற்படையினர் கடற்படை மரபுகளுக்கு அமைவாக வரவேற்றனர்.

INS Vela departs island
The Indian Navy submarine INS Vela, which arrived in Colombo on 10th November 2024, departed the island today (13th November), on successful completion of its formal visit. The Sri Lanka Navy bade customary farewell to the departing submarine at the port of Colombo.

Sponsors provide prizes for Art and Video Animation competition organized by Task Force to Combat the Use of Poisonous and Dangerous Drugs
The Task Force to Combat the Use of Poisonous and Dangerous Drugs is set to conduct an all-Island Art and Video Animation competition under the theme “EMPOWERING CHILDREN AND YOUTH FOR BRIGHT FUTURE WITHOUT DRUGS”. This competition, organized for school children and the youth community, is scheduled for November 2024. The Colombo Plan and Dialog Axiata PLC are sponsoring prizes for the winners of the competition. Today, On 11th November 2024 representatives from these organizations met with the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, who chairs the Task Force to Combat the Use of Poisonous and Dangerous Drugs. During the meeting at Navy Headquarters, they symbolically presented the prizes.

Disabled retired sailor donated a wheelchair
Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, Commander of the Navy, together with Mrs. Mala Lamahewa, President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, presented a wheelchair to retired Able Seaman IDN Thilakkumara, who sustained injuries during humanitarian operations. The donation took place at his residence in Waththegama, Kandy, on 10th November 2024.

Navy educates fishermen on drug prevention and basic life support
The Sri Lanka Navy, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Fisheries, conducted drug prevention and Basic Life Support (BLS) training programmes for fishermen at Cod Bay Fisheries Harbour from 14th July to 08th November 2024.
