Navy expands key welfare facilities in Diyatalawa

The Sri Lanka Navy marked a significant enhancement to its welfare infrastructure with the official opening of newly refurbished and constructed accommodation facilities at the Diyatalawa Naval Resort. The ceremony was held under the patronage of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda on 22 Dec 25.

The event saw the opening of two revitalized holiday bungalows for junior officers, named ‘Lihiniya’, ‘Hansaya I’ and ‘Hansaya II’. These refurbished bungalows will provide enhanced recreational and rest facilities for naval personnel.

Concurrently, a newly built accommodation building for trainee sailors was also opened. This facility was designed to meet the essential lodging requirements for sailors on study tours from various naval training establishments. The facility can concurrently accommodate seventy-two (72) personnel, significantly improving logistical support during training courses.

Further, to improve dining services in a modern setting a new cafeteria was inaugurated for personnel on holyday stay. The Commander also personally commended the Navy Civil Engineering Department for their pivotal role in delivering this key welfare facility to standard.
