Navy renders assistance to restore lives of those impacted by severe weather
As part of the Sri Lanka Navy’s post disaster recovery efforts, naval personnel were engaged in distributing relief aid to the residents of Pukkulam fishing village on 09 Dec 25. This effort was conducted in collaboration with the Wanathawilluwa Divisional Secretariat in Puttalam. Furthermore, the Navy facilitated safe passage across the Nayaru Lagoon, transporting 450 residents and 33 motorcycles to ensure mobility for the affected area.
Following the collapse of the bridges over the Nayaru Lagoon in Mullaitivu District, the Sri Lanka Navy initiated a ferry service on 01 December. Utilizing eight (08) dinghies between Nayaru and Kokilai, the Navy has safely transferred 2,377 people and 175 motorcycles.
Additionally, the Navy has restored 438 flood-contaminated drinking water wells for public use and continues to assist in cleaning flood-affected public areas, including schools and residences.
The Navy also facilitated the offloading of relief supplies from Indian Navy ships and continues to support the distribution of this humanitarian aid to affected communities..
