Commander of the Navy outlines operational priorities during visit to Northern Naval Command
The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda conducted an official visit to the Northern Naval Command on 11 and 12 October 2025. During the visit, he addressed naval personnel, emphasizing operational priorities and strategic objectives of the Navy.
On 11 October, Vice Admiral Banagoda participated in the Katina Pinkama ceremony at Nagadeepa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya. The following day, he reviewed harbour security operations at Kankasanthurei, accompanied by Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage, Commander Northern Naval Area, and a team of senior officers. During this inspections and discussions, he offered directives on harbour security in terms of readiness, response and procedures.
Vice Admiral Banagoda also addressed officers and sailors at PH Bay and SLNS Uththara in Kankasanthurei. He emphasized the Navy’s critical role in advancing national maritime aspirations, highlighting the importance of curbing illegal maritime activities and safeguarding economic interests through the seas.
Further, he called upon all naval personnel to demonstrate unwavering commitment to public and national security, while ensuring the effective management of naval assets, resources and manpower. Moreover, the Navy Chief reminded personnel of the Navy’s strategic vision for 2030 and urged continued dedication of them to nation-building efforts.
