Embarking on naval career: Fifty-nine (59) Officer Cadets receives letters of appointment

During a formal ceremony held at the Navy Headquarters on 12 Aug 25, the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, awarded letters of appointment to 59 Officer Cadets of the Sri Lanka Navy. The group comprised 56 Officer Cadets from the 68th intake and 03 Officer Cadets enrolled under the University Grants Commission scheme.

The 56 Officer Cadets in the Regular Naval Force are designated for the Executive, Engineering, Logistics, Electrical and Electronic and Provost branches. Meanwhile, the 03 Officer Cadets chosen from the University Grant Commission scheme belong to the Medical, Dental, and Engineering branches.

Addressing the gathering, the Commander of the Navy congratulated the fifty-nine (59) Officer Cadets selected from nearly nine hundred (900) applicants to join the Navy. He delivered an inspiring message, outlining their future journey in the naval service and underscoring the unique responsibility entrusted to the Sri Lanka Navy in upholding national security. He assured that the training at Navy’s premier training establishments as well as foreign training exposure will help them to develop professional competence and meet the demands of their career with determination. The Navy Commander also extended his appreciation to the parents for encouraging their sons and daughters to embark on a naval career.

The occasion was also attended by the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Damian Fernando, Director Generals including Director General Training, Rear Admiral Dammika Wijewardana, and the Director General Personnel, Rear Admiral Sanjeewa Premarathna, flag-rank officers, senior officers from the Navy Headquarters and Western Naval Command as well as near and dear ones of the recipients of appointment letters.
