Navy General Hospital makes a splash with breakthroughs in underwater medicine
A one-day workshop on “ABC (Airway, Breathing & Circulation) of Diving Medicine” and a diving medicine exhibition was held at the Navy General Hospital, Welisara, from 06 to 08 Aug 25.
Organized by the Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine (SLCOMM), the programme aimed to enhance the knowledge of medical officers from the tri-services and the civil medical sector on diving-related healthcare.
The workshop, conducted on 06 August, was presided over by Surgeon Rear Admiral Janaka Marmbe, the President of SLCOMM. Sessions were delivered by subject matter experts and covered a range of topics, including Types of Diving, Diving Techniques, Biting and Attacking Marine Animals, Underwater Physics, First Aid for Diving Accidents, Skin and Soft Tissue Infections, and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.
The programme was attended by 32 medical practitioners from the tri-services and civil medical sector, along with 09 medical assistants specializing in underwater diving medicine. All participants who successfully completed the workshop received certificates.
Running parallel to the workshop, the diving medicine exhibition featured a mini chamber and educational displays on dangerous sea animals and diving safety, offering visitors valuable insights into the field of diving medicine.
