TRINEX – 25 sets sail in Trincomalee

The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) launched ‘Trincomalee Naval Exercise - 2025’ (TRINEX – 25) today (22 Jul 25) at the Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee with the Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Ravindra Tissera presiding over the ceremony. Set to run until 26 July, the action-packed exercise will unfold in Trincomalee Harbour and eastern waters, showcasing the might of naval ships, Fast Attack Craft, elite Special Boat Squadron, Navy Marines, and Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) assets.

Aimed at boosting interoperability and combat readiness, TRINEX - 25 will bring together SLN and Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) in a joint operation of maritime strength and precision. The exercise is crafted to ensure SLN ships are prepared to meet operational challenges in the dedicated maritime environment and reach the expected standards of shipborne operations when participating in future local / international fleet exercises. Meanwhile, the naval exercise unfolds in two phases, the harbour and sea phase.

The harbour phase of the exercise commenced today (22 Jul), with briefings on communication protocols and security procedures, fostering collaboration between participating SLN crews and SLAF personnel. The session not only reinforced operational coordination but also served as a platform for valuable knowledge and experience sharing of previous joint exercises, setting the stage for enhanced interoperability in the days ahead.

The sea phase of the exercise will be conducted in the eastern waters from 23 to 26 Jul, showcasing operational readiness and capabilities and the exercise will wrap on 27 Jul. TRINEX – 25 will feature a formidable fleet including capital ships and Fast Attack Craft from the Navy’s elite 4th Fast Attack Flotilla. Adding aerial strength, the Sri Lanka Air Force will deploy air assets for the exercise.

The exercise will feature Miscellaneous Exercises (MISCEX), Surface Target Firing Exercises (SUFTX), Screening Exercises (SCREENEX), Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP), Flashing Exercises (FLASHEX), Gunnery Exercises (GUNNEX), ) Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS), Helicopter Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (HVBSS), Search and Rescue Exercises (SAREX), Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC) and a wide range of maritime exercises.
