Northern waters get major safety measures preparation of oil spill
In a proactive effort to enhance maritime environmental safety, the Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard joined forces for an intensive two-day oil spill response drill (16th and 17th Jun 25) at PH Bay in Kankasanthurei.
As the designated first responder under the National Oil and Hazardous Substance Contingency Plan (NOHSCP), the Coast Guard led the initiative to enhance operational readiness and inter-agency coordination in managing marine pollution incidents.
The programme combined theory and practice, covering critical oil spill response management concepts followed by a realistic mock exercise simulating an offshore spill scenario.
