Hon. President presides over National War Heroes’ commemoration ceremony
The President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Hon. Anura Kumara Disanayake on 19 May 25 presided over the National War Heroes’ Day commemoration held at the National War Heroes’ Monument in Battaramulla. The ceremony held in a dignified sequence was organized by the Ministry of Defence and Ranaviru Seva Authority.
During the solemn ceremony, the Hon. President laid floral tributes at the National War Heroes’ Monument, honouring the brave members of the Armed Forces, Police, and Civil Security Department who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Their ultimate sacrifice was pivotal in securing the country’s freedom by eradicating terrorism once and for all.
The gesture was reciprocated by Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda, Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Gunathilake, Tri-Service Commanders, Acting Inspector General of Police, Director General Civil Security Department and Chairman of Ranaviru Seva Authority, honouring fallen war heroes.
As the ceremony drew to a close, the next of kin of war heroes offered their heartfelt floral tributes, paying homage to the indomitable spirit of our nation's brave defenders.
