Thirty-four (34) nursing students embark on new journey
In a momentous and dignified ceremony, the 2024 intake of the Naval Nurses’ Training School, SLNS Thakshila, celebrated their Capping Ceremony at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium, Navy Headquarters on 09 Apr 25. The occasion saw 34 nursing students from the Sri Lanka Army, Navy and Air Force pledging of dedication to the service in a ceremony graced by the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Damian Fernando as the Chief Guest.
Naval Nurses’ Training School in Welisara is an institute affiliated to the Faculty of Allied Health sciences of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU). During the prestigious ceremony, which marked a significant milestone in the careers of 04 Army, 24 Navy and 06 Air Force nursing students, customary proceedings were performed by senior officers of the Navy and officials representing the Ministry of Health. In addition, 12 nursing students who obtained the highest marks in their subjects were presented with Proficiency Medals.
The Deputy Director General of Medical Services, Ministry of Health, Dr. Lal Panapitiya attended the event as Guest of Honour. Senior officers from the Tri-Services and near and dear ones of the nursing students were also present on this occasion.
