Navy empowers community on disaster relief

A comprehensive three-day training programme aimed at empowering civilian readiness for disaster relief operations was successfully conducted from 05 to 07 Apr 25 in the Southeastern Naval Command. This training was organized under the Government's 'Clean Sri Lanka' initiative, which focuses on community empowerment through education as part of its social pillar.

The programme was conducted at the request of the District Secretary of Ampara, emphasizing the importance of community-level preparedness in disaster-prone regions. The training saw the active participation of 35 civilians from the areas of Samanthurei, Karthivu, and Saindamardu.

The sessions were designed to build resilience, enhance preparedness, and ensure effective community response during emergency situations. Participants were educated on various aspects of disaster management, including early warning systems, first aid, evacuation procedures, and coordination with relief agencies. Additionally, practical exercises allowed attendees to apply their knowledge in simulated emergency scenarios.
