A team of 73 takes on Karagahatenna Peak in daring mountain mission
To promote a good work-life balance for a healthier Navy and community, a wide range of programmes are underway within the Navy. On the sidelines of these initiatives, the Sri Lanka Navy's Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department successfully organised a hiking expedition to Mount Karagahatenna in the Matale District on 29 Mar 25, under the guidance of Director General Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
The event saw the participation of a team of 73, including the Commander Western Naval Area, senior and junior officers from the Western Naval Command and several family members of them. Spanning a total distance of 17km, the trail with dense jungle and scenic beauty of Karagahatenna Peak, kept participants excited, while fostering camaraderie and promoting physical fitness.
Adding an educational aspect to the journey, the hikers also gained insights into the technology and strategic significance of the Microwave Radio Station located atop Mount Karagahatenna.
