Navy engages in awareness drive for Clean Sri Lanka initiative
Naval personnel in the Northern Naval Command participated in a "Clean Sri Lanka" awareness programme on 17 Mar 25. The event highlighted the Sri Lanka Navy's role in the government's vision of creating "Beautiful Island, Smiling People", which aims to improve environmental, social, and governance standards across the nation.
In realization of this vision, the government is pursuing a three-pronged approach combating poverty, establishing a digital economy, and promoting a Clean Sri Lanka initiative.
The Navy conducted this awareness programme to equip its personnel with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively support the Clean Sri Lanka initiative. The programme emphasized the Navy's role, potential challenges, and the far-reaching benefits of the worthy cause. It also addressed the need for individual and collective behavioural changes, from personal habits to institutional practices, to ensure the programme's success.
As part of this awareness initiative, two sessions were conducted on 17 Mar for naval personnel from SLNS Uththara and ships and craft under the Northern Naval Command, followed by another session on 18 Mar for personnel from SLNS Welusumana and Gotaimbara. Starting today (19 Mar), the programme will continue at SLNS Elara, Agbo, Wasabha, and Naval Deployment Veththalakerni until 21 Mar. Furthermore, under the directives of the Commander of the Navy, the initiative will be extended across all Naval Commands.
Furthermore, the Sri Lanka Navy remains fully committed to citizen responsibility initiatives like “A Beautiful Beach, an Attractive Tourist Destination” and “A School Full of Happiness”, which are part of broader Clean Sri Lanka campaign, reflecting the Navy’s dedication to fostering tourist hotspots across the island and nurturing a positive learning environment for children.
