Navy bids adieu to Rear Admiral Thushara Udugama

The Sri Lanka Navy today (07 Mar 25) bade farewell to Rear Admiral Thushara Udugama who relinquished his duties to which he was committed over the past 33 years in the Sri Lanka Navy.

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, along with the Board of Management of the Sri Lanka Navy, extended best wishes to the retiring senior officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Udugama was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions. As the customary event drew to a close, fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer, before he was sent off in a motorcade amidst the cheers of naval personnel.

Rear Admiral Thushara Udugama joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 09th intake of then General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy in 1991. Throughout his distinguished naval career, the senior officer had the privilege of holding prestigious commanding positions on board ships, craft and at establishments. Additionally, he has held several other key appointments throughout his career, including Command Operations Officer (Northwest), Deputy Director (Personnel and Administration), Acting Deputy Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Director Coordinator (Navy) at the Office of Chief of Defence Staff, Director Naval Administration, Director General Administration, Deputy Area Commander (Northwest) and Director General (Naval and Air Operations) at the Office of Chief of Defence Staff.
