Navy enhances operational capabilities with Line-Throwing Adapter Kits for T56 SMG

The Sri Lanka Navy’s Research and Development Unit (RDU) has achieved another milestone in enhancing operational efficiency with the invention of Line-Throwing Adapter Kits for T56 SMG. The kits were officially handed over to SLNS Gajabahu and SLNS Sayurala in a ceremony presided over by the Commander Western Naval Area on 28 Feb 25.

This groundbreaking initiative, launched under the guidance of the Commander of the Navy, was envisioned by the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet. The project, carried out by the RDU with the endorsement of the Research and Development Advisory Committee (RDAC), received financial support from the Centre for Defence Research and Development (CDRD).

The project aims to provide a cost-effective and practical solution for ship-to-ship and line deployment, significantly improving safety and efficiency in naval operations. Moreover, these kits provide a quick and efficient way to deploy lines using existing naval assets, offering a cost-effective solution without compromising performance or reliability.

Against this backdrop, the Sri Lanka Navy remains committed to advancing technological innovation and developing indigenous solutions, aiming to boost its mission efficiency and improve resource management.

The Commanding Officers of SLNS Gajabahu and SLNS Sayurala, Acting Director Naval Policy and Plans and a group of officers from Navy’s Research and Development Unit were present on this occasion.
