Commander of the Navy addresses Navy Board of Management and cross section of naval personnel in Western Naval Command

The newly appointed Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, delivered his inaugural address to the Board of Management at Navy Headquarters today (31st December 2024). In his address, the Commander of the Navy emphasized the Navy's pivotal role in safeguarding national security and outlined the organization's future direction.

Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda emphasized his dedication, as the Commander of the Navy, to providing the leadership and direction needed to align the Sri Lanka Navy with the nation's maritime goals. He discussed key issues with the Navy’s Board of Management, outlining a strategic plan to optimize the Navy's resources, personnel, and technology for maximum extent.

Next, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, addressed officers and sailors representing ships, craft, and establishments belonging to the Western Naval Command at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium. During his speech, he highlighted the Navy's expectation for unwavering dedication from all personnel to sustain and elevate the Navy’s contributions toward achieving the country’s maritime aspirations. He further stressed the significance of the Navy's unique divisional system and the need to fully harness the professionalism and expertise of naval personnel in ensuring maritime security and countering illegal activities in both Sri Lankan and international waters.

He also emphasized the importance of naval personnel refraining from actions that could harm the Navy's reputation or make them vulnerable to external influences, as such conduct could disrupt organizational harmony. Additionally, he underscored the pivotal role of senior officers and sailors in guiding their younger counterparts toward the right path.

He urged naval personnel to carry out their duties with excellence and dedication, ensuring they remain proud members of a triumphant navy. Concluding his remarks, he extended heartfelt wishes to the naval personnel, their families, and civil staff employees for a prosperous New Year 2025.
