Commander of the Navy inaugurates several facilities in Welisara Naval Complex

The Commander of the Navy, Admiral Priyantha Perera along with the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Mala Lamahewa opened several facilities in the Welisara Naval Complex today (30th December 2024). The facilities included a hockey pavilion, a Seva Vanitha Utility Centre, and married quarters, all aimed at improving the welfare and support for naval personnel and their families.

The Commander of the Navy inaugurated the newly constructed hockey pavilion at SLNS Lanka, followed by the opening of the Seva Vanitha Utility Centre. Funded by the Sri Lanka Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, the Utility Centre is a one-stop facility catering to the diverse needs of naval personnel, offering electrical items, furniture, and other essentials. The old sewing centre building had been transformed into the Utility Centre. It also features the Seva Vanitha Welfare Shop, Abans and Singer showrooms, and a Seva Vanitha Beauty Parlour.

Additionally, 21 married quarters were declared open at the Welisara Naval Complex, a project initiated by the Commander of the Navy and financed by the Sri Lanka Navy Seva Vanitha Unit. These constructions, completed with the technical expertise of the Navy’s Civil Engineering and Engineering Departments, aim to enhance the welfare of naval personnel.

Speaking to the naval personnel, Admiral Perera commended the dedicated naval personnel for their efforts in completing these projects swiftly. The Commander Western Naval Area and Commandant Volunteer Naval Force, Rear Admiral Chinthaka Kumarasinghe, and a group of officers and sailors from the Navy Headquarters and Western Naval Command were present on this occasion.
