Proposal for Sri Lanka Navy’s Strategy 2030 & Beyond and Joint Maritime Air Operations Concept launched
The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera officially launched the Proposal for Sri Lanka Navy’s Strategy 2030 & Beyond (NAVSTRAT – 2030) and Joint Maritime Air Operations Concept today (30th December 2024) at Navy Headquarters. These initiatives were introduced via the Sri Lanka Navy's official website.
With a view to embark on a transformative journey, driven by a clear vision and a comprehensive strategy that charts the Navy’s course towards a secure and prosperous maritime future, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera appointed a strategy formulating team, for the compilation of “Proposal for Sri Lanka Navy’s Strategy 2030 & Beyond”. The team conducted an extensive analysis of the current strategic environment and the national maritime aspirations in light of domestic and global realities. Based on a scientific foundation, they developed the proposed strategic plan titled ‘Proposal for Sri Lanka Navy’s Strategy 2030 & Beyond’, outlining how the future strategic direction of the Sri Lanka Navy and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard should be shaped.
Furthermore, to formulate a strategic plan on “Joint Maritime Air Operations in Sri Lanka” for the Sri Lanka Navy, the Navy Commander appointed a strategy formulating team headed by the Director General of Operations. This team conducted an extensive analysis of the resources, capabilities, and technology required for conducting joint operations with the Sri Lanka Air Force within the maritime zones belonging to Sri Lanka, utilizing the Navy’s resources, skills, and technology. Based on this analysis, the proposed strategic plan for Joint Maritime Air Operations in Sri Lanka (JMAOS) was developed. JMAOS outlines a strategic framework to strengthen collaboration between the Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force. This concept emphasizes the integration of aerial assets, including rotary-wing aircraft and unmanned systems, into naval operations aboard surface vessels.
NAVSTRAT – 2030 was presented to the Commander of the Navy by Director Marine Engineering, Rear Admiral Hasantha Dissanayake and JMAOS by Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage. Upon their introduction, Commander of the Navy launched them via the Sri Lanka Navy's official website.
The Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Damian Fernando, officers from the Navy Board of Management and formulating team members of NAVSTRAT – 2030 and JMAOS were present on this occasion.
