Naval personnel welfare is prioritized with several facilities in Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera along with the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Mala Lamahewa opened several facilities in the Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee on 29th December 2024. These newly built and upgraded facilities were opened to enhance the welfare and support for naval personnel and their families.

Under the guidance of the Commander of the Navy, a solution to the long-standing issue of married quarters for naval personnel was implemented. The old sewing center building at the Naval Dockyard was transformed into married quarters for sailors. This renovation was made possible through the financial support of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit and the technical expertise of the Civil Engineering and Engineering Departments of the Navy. The newly completed quarters, named ‘Flick Quarters,’ include four units, which were ceremonially inaugurated by the Commander of the Navy and the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit.

Additionally, the Commander of the Navy inaugurated several other facilities, including the renovated Pepper Pot Jetty, a newly constructed Wardroom for the Special Boat Squadron, and a building for sailor under trainees at the Naval and Maritime Academy. These projects were also carried out with the technical and industrial contributions of the Navy’s Civil Engineering and Engineering Departments. Vice Admiral Perera commended the dedicated naval personnel for their efforts in completing these projects swiftly.

The Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Damian Fernando, Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Rear Admiral Sanjeewa Perera and a group of officers and sailors from the Navy Headquarters and Eastern Naval Command were present on this occasion.
