Hindu Puja invokes blessings on Navy’s 74th Anniversary

A special Puja of Hindu tradition was conducted on 02nd December 2024 at the Sri Ponnambalawaneswarar Kovil in Colombo, seeking blessings for the upcoming 74th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy, slated for the 09th of December.

The religious segment which is part of the anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Navy commenced with the Kanchuka Puja at Ruwanwelisaya and Flag Blessing ceremony at sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi. Meanwhile, the Joint Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service was held at Cathedral of St. Lucia, Kotahena. Further, the Islamic prayer session took place at the Jummah Mosque on Chatham Street.

The Hindu Puja was conducted by the Priest Naajendran Sharma Surendran and the event was presided over by Director General Training, Rear Admiral Dammika Wijewardena. During the special ceremony of Hindu religious rites and rituals merits were transferred to fallen naval war veterans and blessings were invoked on serving and retired naval personnel as well as their family members.

Deputy Area Commander Western Naval Area and Naval Officer in Charge Welisara Naval Complex, Commodore Buddhika Jayaweera, Director Integrated Logistics Management System and Director Naval Budget, Commodore Dulitha Dewapriya, Commanding Officer SLNS Rangalla Captain Nilanga Dharmarathna and a group of naval personnel from the Navy headquarters and Western Naval Command were present on this occasion.
