Commander of the Navy attends the occasion where Hon. President assumed duties as Defence Minister

The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Sri Lanka, Honourable Anura Kumara Dissanayake, assumed duties as Defence Minister at the Defence Headquarters premises in Akuregoda on 22nd November 2024.

Upon his arrival, the Honourable President was received by Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera and Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa. Thereupon, a tri-service Guard of Honour was accorded to the Honourable President, in precision with military traditions.

During the visit, Honourable Anura Kumara Dissanayake addressed a gathering of Ministry of Defence staff members and senior tri-service officers. Deputy Minister of Defence Major General (Retd) Aruna Jayasekara, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff and tri-service commanders were also present on this occasion.
