Twenty-seven (27) Marine personnel complete training triumphantly
The insignia awarding to 07 officers and 20 sailors of the 09th intake of Sri Lanka Navy Marines, who successfully completed their training, was held at the main parade ground of SLNS Vidura in Sampoor, Trincomalee on 19th November 2024. The ceremony was graced by Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy and Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Damian Fernando, at the invitation of the Commandant SLNS Vidura, Captain Sanjeewa Kodikara.
The 09th intake which included 31 naval personnel who willingly joined this arduous Marine Training which was conducted over a period of nine (08) months. On successful completion of training 27 naval personnel earned the prestigious Marine Insignia from Rear Admiral Damian Fernando, the Chief Guest of the event. He also presented trophies to the naval personnel who excelled in training.
Sub Lieutenant RMC Karunarathna was recognized as the Best Marine, while Lieutenant AHGC De Silva earned dual accolades for achieving the Highest Aggregate in Overall Subjects and excelling as the Best Marksman. Sub Lieutenant DMHSL Dissanayake was recognized for outstanding physical fitness. The prestigious event also showcased an impressive display of the Navy Marines' exceptional skills and talents.
Addressing the newly passed-out Navy Marines, Rear Admiral Damian Fernando began by congratulating them on their remarkable achievement. He encouraged the group of naval personnel to actively contribute to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the motherland. Furthermore, he urged them to apply their training with courage and determination, both in their professional duties and personal lives. He emphasized the importance of being prepared to face challenges head-on as members of the armed forces and encouraged them to continuously enhance their skills through knowledge and training.
The occasion was attended by Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Commodore Sanjeewa Perera, Director Marine, Commodore Rohan Dissanayake, Commanding Officer SLNS Vidura and 1st Marine Battalion, Commander Samantha Dissanayake, senior and junior officers from the Navy Headquarters and Eastern Naval Command, senior officers from sister services and Police, as well as a group of parents of newly passed out Marine personnel.
