Navy bids adieu to Rear Admiral Lashanth N Hewavitharane

The Sri Lanka Navy today (15th November 2024) bade farewell to Rear Admiral Lashanth N Hewavitharane who relinquished his duties to which he was committed over the past 33 years in the Sri Lanka Navy.

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera along with the Board of Management, extended best wishes to the retiring senior officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Hewavitharane was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions. As the customary event drew to a close, fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer, before he was sent off in a motorcade amidst the cheers of naval personnel.

Rear Admiral Lashanth N Hewavitharane joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 8th intake of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University in 1990. Throughout his distinguished career, the senior officer has occupied various commanding roles at both establishments and ships. Among some of the other key appointments he held, Training Commander SLNS Shilpa, Naval Officer in Charge (Islands), Deputy Director (Training & Doctrine), Captain Operations Department (West), Captain Operations Department (East) and Acting Port Facility Security Officer (Trincomalee), Tri Forces Coordinating Officer at Disaster Management Centre, Deputy Area Commander North Central Naval Area, Director Naval Welfare, Deputy Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Commandant Volunteer Naval Force and Director General Services stood prominent.
