Navy bids adieu to Rear Admiral Rohitha Abeysinghe

The Sri Lanka Navy today (09th November 2024) bade farewell to Rear Admiral Rohitha Abeysinghe who relinquished his duties to which he was committed over the past 34 years in the Sri Lanka Navy.

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera along with the Board of Management of the Navy, extended best wishes to the retiring senior officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Rohitha Abeysinghe was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions. As the customary event drew to a close, fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer, before he was sent off in a motorcade amidst the cheers of naval personnel.

Rear Admiral Rohitha Abeysinghe joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 8th intake of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University in 1990. During his distinguished naval career, Rear Admiral Rohitha Abeysinghe has held a range of commanding roles onboard Fast Attack Craft, ships and at establishments across the country. Among some of the other key appointments he held; Command Operations Officer and Command Intelligence Officer (West), Training Commander at Naval Recruit Training Centre Sampoor, Directing Staff of Naval Wing at Defence Services Command and Staff College, Port Facility Security Officer (Puttalam) and Supervising Officer Inshore Patrol Craft Training Centre, Deputy Director Naval Operations, Deputy Director Marine Special Forces, Naval Officer in Charge (Welisara), Deputy Area Commander Western Naval Area and Port Facility Security Officer (Colombo), Director General Training, Commander Northern Naval Area and Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy stood prominent.
