Navy bids adieu to Rear Admiral Priyal Withanage

The Sri Lanka Navy today (05th November 2024) bade farewell to Rear Admiral Priyal Withanage who retired from his naval service that spanned over 34 years.

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera along with the Board of Management extended best wishes to the retiring senior officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Priyal Withanage was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions. As the customary event drew to a close, fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer, before he was sent off in a motorcade amidst the cheers of naval personnel.

Rear Admiral Priyal Withanage joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 8th intake of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University in 1990. Throughout his distinguished career, the senior officer has occupied various commanding roles at both establishments and ships. Among some of the other key appointments he held, Senior Staff Officer (Human Resource), General Manager (Malima Hospitality Services), Deputy Director Policy and Plans, Director Naval Welfare, Naval Officer in Charge (Trincomalee South), Deputy Area Commander Northern Naval Area and Port Facility Security Officer (Kankasanthurai) and Director General Services stood prominent.
