Certificate awarding of Regional VBSS Instructors’ Course and Radiological & Nuclear Incident Scenario exercise held in Trincomalee

The Sri Lanka Navy recently hosted a Regional Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) Instructors' Course and a Radiological and Nuclear Incident Scenario exercise at Special Boat Squadron Headquarters and certificate awarding ceremony was held at Sober Island Resort in Trincomalee on 01st November 2024.

Sponsored by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the programme, the Regional VBSS Instructors’ Course, was hosted by the Sri Lanka Navy.The primary aim of the Regional VBSS Instructors' Course was to train participants as internationally qualified instructors in maritime law enforcement. In addition to the core VBSS training, participants engaged in a Exercise with a focus on radiological and nuclear incident response.

A team of 20 personnel from the Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Indian Coast Guard, and Maldives Coast Guard took part in this training exercise.

The certificate awarding ceremony at Sober Island Resort was attended by Ms. Ashanthi Fernando from the U.S. Embassy as the donor representative, and Mr. Stuart Melvil, the Chief Instructor from UNODC, as the chief guests. Ms. Pramudi Lankanadee from UNODC and instructors from the Atomic Energy Authority of Sri Lanka were also present.
