The beach cleaning initiatives were set in motion by SLNS Dakshina, SLNS Kawantissa and ships and craft attached to the Southern Naval Command. The efforts of naval personnel helped restore the attractiveness of the beaches of Galle Fort and Hambantota fisheries harbour, by removing plastic and other waste scattered along the coastline.

The activities, organized under the guidance of Rear Admiral Chandima Silva, Commander Southern Naval Area, were executed by naval personnel from SLNS Dakshina, SLNS Kawantissa, as well as the ships and craft under the Southern Naval Command.

In addition to the beach cleaning efforts, Navy personnel from SLNS Kawantissa also planted Barringtonia Asiatica (Mudilla) saplings to help prevent beach erosion.
