Thirteen (13) officers ready for naval service after completing Basic Orientation Course

The Passing out Parade of 13 naval officers who successfully completed Basic Orientation Course (Medical) 02/2024 was held at the main parade ground of the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee today (11th October 2024). The event was graced by Commandant NMA, Commodore Rohan Joseph, as the Chief Guest.

The distinguished ceremony saw 13 medical officers from the 35th intake of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), who followed Basic Orientation Course, marched off with pride and honour on completion of their training.

At the awards ceremony, Acting Sub Lieutenant DB Jayatilleke was presented with the award for the Best Officer of the Basic Orientation Course (Medical) 02/2024 by the Chief Guest.

Addressing the new bunch of officers, the Chief Guest congratulated them on their achievement and he further stated that the Navy expects officers to be fully dedicated to fulfilling their duties with efficiency and effectiveness in the future. This will be achieved by enhancing professional competence, he opined. Further, he expressed his gratitude to the parents of the officers for giving consent to their children who joined the noble profession.

The event was made more colourful by performances of the Navy band. A group of senior and junior officers from the Eastern Naval Command as well as the parents of passed out officers were also present on this occasion.
