Navy donates electric wheelchair to disabled retired sailor

The Sri Lanka Navy donated an electric wheelchair to retired Petty Officer HJ Pushpakumara, who was disabled while in action. The donation was held at his residence on 26th August 2024, with Rear Admiral Priyal Withanage, Director General Services, presiding over the event.

The Navy lent ears to the request of Petty Officer HJ Pushpakumara who sought assistance from the Directorate of Naval Welfare to obtain the wheelchair. Accordingly, the Navy made funds from Welfare and Naval Social Responsibility available for the electric wheelchair which was produced by the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department.

Acting Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Commodore Dammika Wijewardena and Acting Director Naval Welfare, Captain Indika Edirisinghe were also present on this occasion.
