Cluster meeting of ReCAAP concludes on successful note
The cluster meeting of Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) which got underway at the Kingsbury Colombo, came to a successful end today (25th July 2024) following a visit in Colombo.
On 23rd July, discussions were held on a wide range of themes which included; Situation Update on Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia, Preparedness to Combat Piracy and Armed Robbery Against Ships including Timely / Accurate Incident Report, Case Study on the Investigation Outcome of the Incident “Loranzo Putha 4”, Preparedness to Combat Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships including Timely Reaction against the Incident, addressing the Root Cause of Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships, Engagement with Counterparts in Neighbouring Countries, Preparedness to Combat Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships and Efforts to Information Sharing, Preparedness to Combat Piracy and Efforts to Fortify the Security in Its Port / Anchorage, Preparedness to Combat Piracy and Efforts on Timely/ Accurate Incident Report and Problem Faced by the Industry.
On the following day (24th July), India and Bangladesh focal points led the discussion on the theme of Engagement with Sri Lanka Authorities and Shipping Industry on Piracy and Armed Robbery Against Ships and Perspective on Sri Lanka Maritime Security. The ReCAAP cluster meeting also focused on exchange of ideas, information, and experiences on progress, preparedness, incident reports, case studies, security measures, and issues related to maritime security.
Hosting meetings of this nature offers an opportunity to enhance collaboration and share fresh insights, experiences, and tactics necessary for a united response to emerging non-traditional maritime threats in the Indian Ocean region. Moreover, it fosters the growth of cooperation and coordination among the maritime partners in the region.
