Navy undertakes cleaning programme following Jaffna-Sella Kataragama foot pilgrimage

The Navy organized a cleaning programme at Bagure lagoon area in the Kumana National Park on 17th July 2024, to collect and dispose of solid waste, including plastic and polythene, left behind by devotees who participated in the foot pilgrimage from Jaffna to Sella Kataragama.

At the request of the Department of Wildlife Conservation, the cleaning initiative was carried out under the directives of Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, the Commander of the Navy. As a result, the Navy rolled up its sleeves to collect solid waste, including plastic and polythene left behind by devotees, ensuring its removal from the area to protect the environment.
