Navy-built pilgrims’ hall of Deegavapiya Chaithya declared open in parallel with depositing of relics and treasures

Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe, the President and Commander - in - Chief of the Armed Forces of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka deposited relics and treasures at the historic Deegavapiya Chaithya on 14th July 2024. The spiritual event was also attended by the Secretary Defence, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd), the Chief of Defence Staff and Tri Service Commanders. In parallel with this occasion, the “Ven. Daranagama Kusaladhamma Nahimi Memorial Pilgrims’ Hall”, built utilizing the manpower and industrial expertise of the Sri Lanka Navy, was also declared open with the presence of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera

The main ceremony featured the enshrinement of Sarvagna Dhatu in a dedicated casket amidst Buddhist rituals and beating of drums. Next the sacred casket and treasures were brought to the Relics Shrine of Deegavapiya Chaithya in a colourful procession.

Subsequently, the Honourable President deposited those Sarvagna Dhatu and treasures at the Relics Shrine of Deegavapiya Chaithya, amidst the blessings and chanting of Seth Pirith by the members of Venerable Maha Sangha.

In parallel with the main ceremony, the “Ven. Daranagama Kusaladhamma Nahimi Memorial Pilgrims’ Hall '', built utilizing the manpower and industrial expertise of the Sri Lanka Navy, was also declared open, with the presence of the Commander of the Navy. This hall has been constructed to accommodate pilgrims traveling long distances to Deegavapiya.

The members of Venerable Maha Sangha, tri-service personnel, distinguished invitees and a large group of devotees were also present on this occasion.
