Logistics Conference - 2024 and Certificate Awarding of LLMC No. 8 conclude in Trincomalee

The Logistics Conference - 2024 and Certificate Awarding of Long Logistics Management Course (LLMC) No.8 were held at the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium in Trincomalee on 08th and 09th June 2024. At the invitation of Commandant Naval and Maritime Academy, Commodore Rohan Joseph the Logistics Conference was graced by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, as the Chief Guest. Professor Nelis Perera, who specializes in Supply Chain Management at the University of Moratuwa, delivered the keynote address at the conference.

The conference focused on the theme of ‘Navigating Sustainably: The Economic Resilience through Contemporary Logistics Management’ and featured three (03) sessions in which student officers of LLMC No. 8 presented six (06) research papers.

Accordingly, the first, second and third sessions were held under the topics of “Transformative Logistics for Sri Lanka's Economic Renaissance”, “Public-Private Synergy: Driving Economic Prosperity through Logistics” and “Green Horizons: Steering Sustainable Logistics for Economic Resilience”.

The Commander of the Navy highlighted that the Logistics Conference - 2024 was conducted under a highly relevant theme. He emphasized that these conferences play a crucial role in developing professionals within the Navy, aligning with the government's vision of transforming Sri Lanka into a developed nation and contributing significantly to the Sri Lanka Navy's Strategy 2030. He also mentioned the significant sacrifices made by naval personnel during the humanitarian operation, which played a crucial role in achieving lasting peace for the nation. He also emphasized that national security is paramount for fostering economic resilience and stability. He emphasized that the Sri Lanka Navy is highly regarded not only for its role in national security but also for its contributions to international security. This recognition stems from its successful adherence to international maritime obligations, active participation in the Combined Maritime Forces operations, effective management of Search and Rescue missions within Sri Lanka's region and neighboring areas, and its collaborative efforts in addressing non-traditional maritime challenges, he opined.

The Commander of the Navy emphasized the significant role that logistics experts, graduating from the Naval and Maritime Academy, will play in managing the logistics of the Navy in alignment with Sri Lanka Navy's Strategy 2030. He expressed his heartfelt appreciation to everyone involved in the successful execution of the 'Logistics Conference-2024' and the 8th Long Logistics Management Course.

Marking the culmination of LLMC No 8, student officers were awarded certificates by the Commander of the Navy. Accordingly, Lieutenant Commander (S) HIK Pieris was awarded three prizes for securing the Highest Aggregate in Naval Subjects, Highest Aggregate in Academic Subjects and the First in Order of Merit. Lieutenant Commander (S) ADS Sapukotuna was lavished as the Most Inspired Officer of the course. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Commander (S) KDPM Kathriarachchi, who secured the first place in LLMC No 7 in 2023 and first place in too received her prizes and certificates.

The Logistics Conference – 2024 was organised by the student officers of LLMC No. 8 under the able guidance of Commandant Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Commodore Rohan Joseph and with the support of the NMA Directing Staff. The Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, Director General Logistics, Rear Admiral Ruwan Kalubowila, Director Genaral Training Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage, Director Generals, retired senior officers, a cross section of logistics officers from the Navy Headquarters and Naval Commands, officers from the sister services and Police, officers from foreign navies, and a group of officer under trainees of NMA were present on this occasion.
